Duties and Responsibilities
The Ethiopian agricultural sector demonstrates robust systematic performance through a structured approach to ensure sustainable food and nutrition security. Central to this effort is the formulation and implementation of comprehensive policies and strategies tailored to local cultural traditions and dietary requirements. These initiatives are meticulously planned to address short, medium, and long-term nutritional needs of the population, ensuring affordability, safety, and quality of food products
Key activities include conducting nationwide surveys to assess dietary patterns, promoting diversified and nutrient-rich agricultural practices, and integrating food-based agriculture into educational curricula. The sector also focuses on reducing food waste, improving food safety standards, and enhancing the productivity and resilience of farmers and pastoralists through capacity-building programs.
Furthermore, the establishment of Nutrition Demonstration Centers and Model Nutrition Villages serves as pivotal platforms for showcasing best practices in nutrition-sensitive agriculture. These centers not only disseminate knowledge but also facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies aimed at enhancing food security.
