Ethiopia’s Agricultural Achievements Serve as a Model, Says Mozambican Minister

A delegation headed by Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries, Roberto Mito Albino, visited ongoing agricultural development initiatives in the Bishoftu area of the Oromia Regional State on April 28, 2026.

During the visit, Minister Roberto Mito Albino praised Ethiopia’s achievements in the agricultural sector, describing them as exemplary and worth following. He noted that the country’s progress provides a valuable model for other nations.

The minister stated that Mozambique intends to draw lessons from Ethiopia’s experience, particularly in encouraging agricultural investment, creating employment opportunities for youth, and improving household livelihoods. He further emphasized that he observed clear and tangible progress in Ethiopia’s efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency.

Addressing the delegation, Dr. Mandefro Nigussie, Director General of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute, said Ethiopia is registering encouraging results through the expansion of cluster farming, an approach that enhances productivity among smallholder farmers. He also highlighted that extensive development activities are being implemented under the Bounty of Basket (“Yelemat Tirufat”) Initiative, alongside natural resource development programs.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured vegetable and fruit farms developed by private investors and youth beneficiaries, facilities producing agricultural export products, dairy farming centers, as well as egg-laying poultry farms and chick hatching centers.
