Addis Ababa, September 2, 2026 (Ministry of Agriculture) – Ethiopia and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, with a renewed focus on modernization, technology transfer, investment promotion, and value-chain development.
The partnership was discussed during a meeting between Yilma Sisay, Head of the Minister’s Office at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture, and a delegation led by Laudemir Müller, President of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). The discussions centered on ongoing collaboration and future opportunities to enhance agricultural development in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, both sides underscored Ethiopia’s vast agricultural potential and highlighted the importance of leveraging Brazil’s extensive experience, expertise, and best practices to accelerate agricultural transformation. Key areas identified for cooperation include improving coffee productivity, quality enhancement and processing, agricultural research and technology transfer, input supply and mechanization, irrigation technologies, soil fertility management, cluster farming, and livestock development.
The two parties also emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration in agribusiness, innovation, and investment to support sustainable agricultural growth and improve competitiveness across the sector.
ApexBrasil reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Ethiopia to promote agricultural exports, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, attract investment, and foster business partnerships. The agency’s decision to establish its first African office in Addis Ababa is expected to play a significant role in supporting Ethiopia’s agricultural modernization efforts and expanding private-sector engagement in the sector.
Officials noted that Ethiopia’s significant agricultural and investment potential, strategic geographic location, and access to regional and continental markets were among the key factors behind ApexBrasil’s decision to open its African office in the Ethiopian capital.
The strengthened partnership is expected to create new opportunities for investment, innovation, and knowledge exchange, contributing to Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to transform its agricultural sector and enhance food security, productivity, and export performance.
