๐ŸŽฏThe Ethiopian Strategic Investment Framework (ESIF II) was officially launched on 17 April 2026 at the Ministry of Agriculture Hall, in the presence of the Chair of the Agriculture Standing Committee of the House of Peopleโ€™s Representatives, development partners, researchers, and members of academia.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธSpeaking at the event, State Minister for Natural Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopia, Eyasu Elias (Professor), emphasized that sustainable land management is central to ensuring food security and the nationโ€™s long-term survival. He noted that, Ethiopia has progressively transitioned towards community-based and participatory approaches. This has led to the development of major flagship programs focused on community watershed management interventions. โ€œToday, we are launching not just a revised framework, but a transformational shift on how we manage our landscapes,โ€ he stated.

๐ŸŒพAccording to the state minister, ESIF II introduces several key innovations – from watershed to landscape methods. Moving beyond fragmented micro-watershed interventions, the shift is towards a more integrated landscape approach organized around basin and sub-basin levels. This shift aims at ensuring ecological connectivity and system-wide impact. The framework promotes coordinated management of all ecosystem elements to enhance sustainability and productivity.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธProf. Eyasu further emphasized that the success of ESIF II will depend on strong collective action. The Ministry of Agriculture, as the lead institution, is committed to providing effective leadership, strengthening cross-sectoral coordination, and creating an enabling policy environment.

๐ŸคThe ESIF II outlines a long-term investment framework estimated at USD 25 billion over 15 years, aimed at scaling up sustainable landscape management across Ethiopia. The financial support is expected to come from the Government of Ethiopia, development partners, and local communities.
