Addis Ababa, May 22, 2026 โ€” The Ministry of Agriculture Ethiopia has officially launched its National Regenerative Agriculture Strategy, marking a significant step in the countryโ€™s ongoing efforts to transform its agricultural sector through sustainable and climate-resilient approaches.

The strategy places strong emphasis on restoring soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and improving water management systems as critical pillars for boosting agricultural productivity and sustainability. It also seeks to address the growing challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation, which have increasingly affected farming communities across the country. By promoting regenerative agricultural practices, Ethiopia aims to ensure long-term food security while safeguarding natural ecosystems.

H.E. Desalegn Teshele, State Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture Development at the Ministry of Agriculture Ethiopia, underscored the importance of the initiative, stating that regenerative agriculture plays a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of land degradation and climate change. He emphasized that the strategy has been carefully designed to align with the countryโ€™s broader agricultural development goals. According to him, its implementation will significantly contribute to achieving food sovereignty and reducing the nationโ€™s vulnerability to climate-related risks.

The development of the strategy involved extensive collaboration among government institutions, development partners, research bodies, and other stakeholders. It also reflects Ethiopiaโ€™s commitment to leveraging its rich indigenous knowledge systems and ecological heritage to support modern, sustainable farming practices.

The launch forum brought together federal and regional government officials, along with representatives of development partner organizations, demonstrating the wide-ranging support for the initiative. During the event, the strategy was presented in detail and discussed extensively, with participants highlighting the importance of coordinated action and strong partnerships to ensure effective implementation.
Stakeholders noted that the success of the strategy will depend on harmonized efforts across all levels, from policymakers to local farming communities. They also stressed the need for sustained investment, capacity building, and awareness creation to facilitate the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices nationwide.

Overall, the National Regenerative Agriculture Strategy is expected to serve as a guiding framework for Ethiopiaโ€™s transition toward a more resilient, productive, and environmentally sustainable agricultural system, contributing to improved livelihoods and long-term national development.
