Addis Ababa, July 16, 2026 (Ministry of Agriculture): Ethiopia and China held discussions on areas of potential cooperation in dairy development.
State Minister for Livestock and Fishery Development at the Ministry of Agriculture Ethiopia, Fikru Regassa (PhD), held discussions with a delegation led by Madam Betty Xu, Chairperson of the Ethiopia-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee.
Dr. Fikru, explained that “Yelemat Tirufat” (Bounty of the Basket) is a national initiative implemented to boost livestock production and productivity, and is already recording tangible results.
He emphasized that a favourable ecosystem, legal framework, and market opportunities exist for investors interested in engaging in dairy sector development and assured that the Ministry will provide all the necessary support.
Madam Betty Xu for her part noted the presence of a Chinese company, “Bright Dairy and Food” which seeks to engage in dairy development in Ethiopia and requested that the Ministry provide the necessary cooperation to the company.
The two sides held extensive talks and reached an understanding on areas of potential collaboration spanning the entire value chain, from milk production and processing to marketing.
