Addis Ababa, September 15, 2026 (Ministry of Agriculture) โ€“ Ethiopian specialty coffee has achieved a historic milestone in the international market, with a kilogram of premium Guji coffee selling for US$2,376, the highest price ever recorded for Ethiopian coffee. The record was set during an international specialty coffee auction held on September 14, 2026, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.

The Authority stated that the record-breaking sale highlights the growing global demand for Ethiopian specialty coffee and further strengthens the country’s reputation for producing some of the world’s finest Arabica coffees. The achievement is also expected to boost Ethiopia’s visibility in high-value specialty coffee markets and create new opportunities for coffee producers and exporters.

The award-winning coffee was produced by Faysel Abdosh, owner of Tasty Coffee, and marketed under the exclusive “Faysel Abdosh Signature” label. The coffee was sold through M-Cultivo, a leading international online specialty coffee auction platform, demonstrating the strong recognition Ethiopian coffee continues to receive among global buyers.

Beyond its commercial significance, the historic sale will also contribute to community development. The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announced that all proceeds from the auction will be donated through the Testi Foundation to support the construction of a modern health center in Denbi Udo Kebele, Shakiso Woreda,Guji Zone, Oromia region. The initiative is intended to improve access to healthcare services while recognizing the dedication of Guji coffee farmers and local communities whose commitment to quality made the achievement possible.

Through improved farming practices, better post-harvest handling, and stronger market linkages, the initiative seeks to further elevate Ethiopia’s position in the global coffee industry.
