Message From the Minister

Ethiopia’s agricultural sector is undergoing a decisive reform, driven by rapid population growth, rising food demand, fragile ecosystems, increasing energy needs, and intensifying climate change impacts. These converging pressures are compelling a fundamental shift in how agriculture is organized, financed, and modernized. In response, the sector is accelerating the adoption of technological innovation to ensure household food security, sustain a reliable supply for the agro-industry, and expand the production of high-value commodities for export. Agriculture in Ethiopia offers expanding opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses, industrialists, exporters, aggregators, and other key actors across the value chain. The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) is fully committed to working in partnership with all stakeholders to drive transformation at speed and at scale. To this end, the Ministry will focus on three strategic domains. First, creating an enabling environment through well-designed incentives that crowd in investment and stimulate productivity across the sector. Second, strengthening the generation and use of data, evidence, skills, and knowledge empowering farmers, extension systems, researchers, and policymakers to make informed and timely decisions. Third, investing in critical infrastructure and systems that unlock the full potential of Ethiopia’s natural resources in a sustainable and inclusive manner. Through these concerted efforts, Ethiopia will advance towards a modern, resilient, and competitive agricultural system that delivers prosperity for its people and contributes meaningfully to national development.
