INFORMING THE ETHIOPIAN FOOD SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION: TOWARDS THE UNFSS 2021 AND ACTION

The United Nations Secretary-General will convene the Global Food Systems Summit in September 2021, as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Being a people‚Äôs and solutions summit, it will be a unique opportunity to move the dial on Food Systems Transformation and deliver on the SDG-2030 Agenda. The process is guided along five interlinked Action-Tracks, that include addressing possible tradeoffs and aim to identify solutions that can deliver healthier, more sustainable and equitable Food Systems. The action tracks are (i) Ensure Safe and Nutritious Food for All (ii) Shift to Sustainable Consumption Patterns (iii) Boost Nature Positive Production (iv) Advance Equitable Livelihoods (v) Build Resilience to Vulnerabilities, Shocks, and Stresses. For each Action Track, Game Changing solutions are being put forward, solutions that can build momentum on food system transformation in a positive direction, at scale. To this end, Ethiopia through participatory approach has developed EFS background paper and Ethiopian Food System (EFS) Briefing Note through a series of dialogues and planned actions.
